How Cells Show Intelligence:

Professor Brian J Ford, a leading authority on the microscope and author of many best-selling books around the world
will be the guest speaker for a special dinner meeting on May 12th, 2008 at 6:30PM.

Today's biology tells us that the brain controls everything that the body does. Although we now understand that biofilms
of bacteria can show some primitive kind of organization that allows them to resist antimicrobial therapy, we still believe
that intelligence is the province of only advanced, multicellular life forms. Few people are looking at cells as whole organisms,
and Brian believes that - when we do this - there are some startling lessons for us to learn.

Since the 1970s Brian has been advocating the ingenuity of single cells. In this presentation he will show videos of living cells
performing tasks that demand ingenuity. Some of them show a level of problem-solving that we associate with higher
life-forms. This suggests that intelligence resides within each living cell, and it poses a radically new way of looking at
the human brain and what it can (and cannot) do.

Brian has lectured in the USA for more than 30 years and is a popular speaker at conferences world-wide.
Seating is by reservation and is limited to 75 people. Anyone with an interest in science is encouraged to attend this
very special and informative dinner meeting.
